THE RED CORNER
NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 28th, 2026
Happy Monday team!
Fall is here! And with it brings cooler temperatures and some amazing training over the next few months.
We have a pretty awesome week lined up with two special events. I’ll get to those shortly. But first, I want to remind everyone that we have a number of resources at the bottom of each newsletter (under the signature).
- Monday Mindset. I’ve been writing (and occasionally recycling) these every week for the past five years. These are just some of my personal thoughts on the attitudes and perspectives that elite athletes and martial artists share and embody.
- Fit Jitsu Stripe Challenge. Every week, our Fit Jitsu students are challenged to accomplish a task outside of class. We detail these on our blog, and link that post to every newsletter we send out. These are also announced in class.
- Student Handbook. Not sure what gear you need for class? Or what certain policies are? Keep this resource handy as it covers all the major bases of being on the North Star honor roll 🙂
- Membership and Billing Policies. Self explanatory, keep this handy if you are uncertain about anything related to membership, tuition, billing, and more.
Each newsletter features the most up-to-date entry in the Mindset and Stripe Challenge categories, so check in weekly! Additionally you can find these posted to our blog at www.northstarmma.com/blog
This Tuesday we welcome guest coach Kyle Vashkulat into North Star for a workshop focusing on Judo grips and trips. Kyle is a member of the 2012 London Olympics USA Judo team as well as a BJJ brown belt, and he will lead the class through some of his world class Judo drills.
This workshop replaces our 7:30pm gi class and is open to all students — however, a gi is required!
On Saturday, October 3rd we are running a modified schedule to accommodate the PRO/AM Sparring Event, the area’s largest gathering of Muay Thai fighters. We invite nearly 100 of the area’s top athletes to North Star every year for an afternoon of high level, competitive training. This year we are excited to announce a partnership with Tatsu Tea and USA Muay Thai, who will be providing support and services to the event.
To accommodate such a large event, we do have to close the acadedemy from 12:15pm onwards. Please note the schedule for Saturday, 10/3:
- 8am Competition Training CANCELLED
- 9am M4A
- 10am Striking 101/Sparring 301
- 11am Open Mat (BJJ)
- 12:15pm closed for preparation
- 12:30pm athletes arrive
See you on the mats!
