NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

WEEK OF JUNE 24th, 2024

 

Happy Monday Team!

We successfully survived the first heatwave of the year — hopefully everyone was able to stay hydrated, upbeat, and comfortable this past week.  Moving forward, if you fail to prepare — prepare to fail 🙂  With hydration as it is with all things in life, I suppose.

This week marks our June Slamboree on Tuesday!  Students will have the opportunity to test into our Striking 201 program, as well as some BJJ promotions and open mat later in the evening.  Make sure to come out and train a bit!

Additionally, this week will be coach Larry’s last.  Larry is moving to a new location in the area and on to new and bigger opportunities, and we wish him the best of everything as he embarks on a new chapter in his life.  He has been an incredible coach here at the academy and we are sad to see him go.  Although his last official class will be Saturday, June 29th, we have designated this Wednesday as “Larrypalooza” — coach Larry will be running our 201 class on Wednesday evening and sharing some of his favorite skills, drills, and if we’re lucky, bad jokes.  It will be a great opportunity to come out and say your “See ya later’s” (there are no “goodbyes” in Muay Thai, it’s too small of a world!) and make plans to catch up in the future.

This Saturday, we are hosting the PRO/AM sparring event here at the academy — a large gathering of the area’s top talent for a few hours of high paced kickboxing sparring.  Past events have seen 12+ gyms with 50+ athletes so it’s always a good time!

There will be no changes to our Saturday class schedule, with the exception of our 8am Competition Team Training session cancelled.  All other classes are on as normal, including our awesome BJJ open mat at 11am.

Beyond that, it’s another day at the office for us so let’s make sure to get on the mats and keep chipping away.  I’ll see you there!
