Happy Monday team!
Been a solid week of effort on the mats, and we have a solid week of effort coming up. As they say, over the hill is just another hill 🙂
Not much to report for this coming week, so I’ll instead share some perspective with you.
Not everyone who trains here is going to be the best in the room on any given day. And that’s ok. But being “the best” doesn’t mean you have the most impact, and being “the worst” doesn’t mean you have the least impact.
Note: I’m using quotes around “best” and “worst,” by the way, because the premise behind these categories is inherently flawed — we are not competing with each other, and therefore none of us can be the best or worst. We can simply just be better or worse than our selves on any given day. But I digress.
The newest, most inexperienced person in the room could come in with a cold and get everyone sick. This isn’t news to any of you — it’s fact of life for those of us who work in and around other people.
So, consider: what else is contagious? Attitude, positivity, effort — these are all just as contagious as the common cold.
We all know that one person who can come into the room and immediately suck all the joy out of it. Their poor attitude casts a shadow over everything, and the vibe instantly changes.
Similarly, we all know that person who comes into the room and immediately brightens everything up. Their presence and attitude alone elevate those around them.
Attitude can be contagious. So my challenge for you this week (and every day of every week, really) is to be the most positive and contagious person you can be on the mats.
You don’t need permission to smile, to encourage others, or to lead by example with your effort.
You don’t need to be a world champion to have a championship level attitude.
You don’t need to be an “OG” of the gym to be a leader on the mats.
Let’s not compete on who can be the best at fighting. That’s for the ring to decide. But let’s challenge each other and compete to see who can be the best partner, the best cheerleader, and the best example.
Are you up for it??
See you on the mats!
