We wrapped up an insane stretch of training, competing, and special events this weekend with both our Grapple at the Chapel II Jiu Jitsu showcase as well as Freedom Fighting Championships Muay Thai in South Philadelphia!
Grapple at the Chapel II was insanely fun, and the kids really showed out on our card of 14 bouts. We made some serious upgrades from our last event with the addition of our spotlights and additional awards. Can’t wait to do it again in the Fall! Congratulations to Ezio and Zach for picking up the MVP awards, and Naima, Cassius, and Alejandro for accepting our “Student of the Year” awards which are bona fide, real deal samurai swords!
Tim Green battles to a split draw decision on Saturday night in the main event of Freedom Fighing Championships in South Philadelphia. An amazing fight camp, amazing warmup, amazing performance, and disappointing decision by the judges. This sport is crazy and full of ups and downs, and unfortunately you only get what you get (check out the Monday Mindset article this week, I speak more on that as well as this fight in particular). The comp team has been on a tear and it’s easy to be hyped up for all the wins, but we gotta keep that same energy for the D’s and L’s that come as well. We return to action on June 20th with Makhi and Xavier stepping back into the ring at Gut Check Championships in Delaware.
Memorial Day Weekend is upon us — Summer is here! Please note the adjusted class schedule for MDW:
- 5/22 FRIDAY – Morning classes on as normal, 6pm open mat (striking and nogi BJJ). Striking open mat will have a “workout of the day” planned so come in, grab a partner, and get to work! Or just spar, hangout, or whatever. There will be something for everyone.
- 5/23 SATURDAY – Striking open mat @ 10am, BJJ open mat @ 11am. No 9am M4A.
- 5/25 MONDAY – Closed. Open mat TBD.
We return to our regular class schedule on Tuesday, May 26th!
