INSPIRATION
WEEK OF 11/17/25
“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.” — Stephen King
There you have it.
Inspiration, like Motivation (capital M), is one of those things people feel are necessary in order to move forward. But reality for most of us is that these bouts of inspiration are few and far between.
You could spend months waiting for the right inspiration to start something new, or to tighten up your diet, or whatever.
You could even wait years.
The entire meaning of “inspiration” is kind of funny when you break it down: being possessed or filled with a spirit. That is to say, something external that enters you to guide your actions. Something outside of your control.
When you really think about it, being “inspired” is probably the least reliable way of getting things done.
What we want to cultivate is strong discipline and a proper work ethic. This can only be done by setting ourselves to a task, seeing results, and realizing that the time and energy invested are a proper exchange for the results obtained.
You will never see that, however, if you don’t get up and get to work. Investment precedes the payout.
Time has a scary way of just passing by. Blink, and you can miss years.
Sitting around with your hands in your pocket waiting for that spirit to motivate you into moving might not be the safest bet. But you can always count on lacing up your work boots, clocking in, and getting your hands a little dirty.
