QUICK REFERENCE FAQ

 

Thank you to everyone for your patience over the last couple of days.  We literally worked dawn to dusk (and beyond) to get our new space operational.  There is still plenty to do, so your patience with our housekeeping is greatly appreciated.

With that said, we are excited to invite everyone in to enjoy the new facility for classes as normal this week starting with our Monday morning lineup!

Before heading in, however, take a moment to read up on our new location as transportation, parking, layout, etc are all, well, new!

 

Where is the new location?

The North Star Academy is now located at 6673 Germantown Ave, Unit B, Philadelphia PA, 19119 in Mt. Airy!  We now occupy the chapel of St Michael’s Lutheran Parrish, adjacent to Mt. Airy Pediatrics.  The chapel building is set back from the street on the Northeast corner of Germantown Ave and Phil Ellena streets.

 

Where can/should I park?

There is a modest parking lot for the church complex.  This can be accessed off Springer St.   However…

A couple of notes on parking:

• The lot is extremely busy during the 9-5 business hours and clears out afterwards.  For families attending our youth classes between 4-6pm, we advise relying on other options as the lot fills up quickly.  There is a wide open span on Germantown Ave just in front of the chuch — this is a “no parking/no stopping zone” but, well, this is also Philadelphia and may be a decent option for quick drop offs!
• Please do not park on Springer St at all!  This is a small, dense side street — please respect our neighbors here.
• There is some parking along East Phil Ellena street, but be considerate of our neighbors!  This section is not as dense as Springer and is a lot of open space.
• Germantown Ave has ample 2-hour parking (which is free after 6pm) so this is a great option.
• West Phil Ellena streets and, generally, any streets West of Germantown Ave are sparse!  East of Germantown is a little more dense and is not recommended.
• Parking behind the post office on Germantown Ave (just on the other side of Phil Ellena) is an option as these businesses close after 5/6pm.
• Jammed up?  Maybe try the Grocery Outlet parking lot (off Hortter st) if you are desperate.  This is usually kinda empty, but you didn’t hear that from us!!  By the way, Grocery Outlet is awesome.  Check it out!
• In short, stay off Springer St, take your chances with the lot, or have an easy time parking on the West side of Germantown Ave.  

 

How do I find the front entrance?

If approaching from the Springer St lot: head beyond the entrance to Mt. Airy Pediatrics (follow the yard sign) and turn right.  Our official front entrance is the double doors up the small staircase.  We are not currently using the entrance at the end of the ramp, but this can be used if necessary for those with disabilities.

Are there any changing rooms?  Where do I change?

Currently we do not have a changing area built out.  We do have a room that can be used for students on an individual basis, as well as communal bathrooms with some room for changing.  Bear with us as we figure out the best use of our space.

 

Can we walk barefoot off the mats?

Nope, no, nyet, never.  Please continue to observe our health and safety guidelines as you would if we were still on Greene St 😉
