NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

WEEK OF JULY 14th, 2025

 

Happy Monday Team!

We are rocketing towards a big change here at the academy!  That, plus the seasonal lull of the Summer months, leads us into a productive but standard week of training (that is to say, no big events this week).  We won’t start to see the special events pick back up until we approach September as the entire industry often goes easy in the middle of the year.

Let’s quickly shout out two students who leveled up this weekend, though!

Big congratulations to Cassius on advancing to white and blue belt in our Fit Jitsu program!  Cassius is one of our hardest workers in that class and his progress is no surprise to anyone.  Great work dude!

Second, Gabe Lewis moved up to purple belt in BJJ.  I’ve always considered purple belt to be the hardest and most rewarding belt to obtain.  At this stage, you are absolutely on track to your black belt and you have developed a very mature game.  Gabe is one of the silent killers who works tirelessly and makes that consistent, little improvement over time.  Congrats Gabe!

 

Our project timeline is listed below.  We’ll have signup sheets for help on each of these days — you can find them at the front desk this week!

Our moving and project timeline is now set.  Barring any unforseen setbacks (which, truly, are a possibility) we will be observing the following schedule for our transition to the new space at 6673 Germantown Ave.  We’ll have signup sheets available soon for those able to help:

• 7/18  — Receiving of second half of sprung floor lumber.  We’ll need 4-5 people to help carry approximately 70 sheets of OSB in this day.
• 7/18 — Sprung Floor prep.  Need 1-2 people.
• 7/19 – 7/20  — Final installation of sprung floor.  We’ll need 4-6 people to help drill the subfloor into place, as well as rip some plywood and other lumber to size.
• 7/23 — Last day of classes on Greene St 🙁
• 7/24 — Disassembly, cleaning, and staging of Greene St.  Could use a crew!
• 7/25 — Moving Day!  Could use a big crew!
• 7/26 – 7/27 — Setting up at Germantown Ave.  Small crew needed.
• 7/28 — First day of classes at 6673 Germantown Ave!  BIGGEST CREW NEEDED 🙂

Also — I’m actually writing this on Saturday after open mat (the 12th).  Saturday BJJ open mat is always a great time.  Make sure to get out there!!  It’s my favorite session of the week.
