NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

WEEK OF MARCH 24th, 2025

 

Happy Monday Team!

Back at it after a successful week of training.  Mats were packed, and it’s always extremely rewarding for me to see students making breakthroughs.  Whether that’s a seasoned veteran adding a new weapon to their arsenal, or a brand new student having a lightbulb moment — it hits the same and it’s the reason I do what I do.

We have two special events coming up early next month, which I’m detailing below.  Please register as soon as you can, as it makes things go a lot smoother for everyone involved.  Obviously, walk ins for either event will be welcomed, but the more advance notice we have the better we can prepare and improve the experience for you.

Before we get to that, though, I’ve been fielding a lot of questions about “THE MOVE.”  Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own business I forget that other people can’t read my mind 🙂  So, here’s some information!

• We will be lifting our mats and moving to a new location on or around July 1st, 2025 (and yes, I could use help moving the stuff)
• The new address is 6673 Germantown Avenue, right next to Mount Airy Pediatrics and located in St Michael’s Parrish.
• We anticipate closing over a weekend + a few days (maybe 3-4 days total)
• There will be no major changes in our schedule or operations
• The new location is, quite simply, going to be incredible.. you will be blown away
• However, we will soon go dark on info and updates as I want to keep the finished product a surprise for everyone
• Also it has a graveyard attached to it (how cool?)

Hidden City Philadelphia wrote a great article on the building itself back in 2021 — give it a read!  And yes, we do plan to do some cool Halloween stuff either this year or next.

If you have any questions about the move and/or the new location just ask!  I am an open book.

With that said, let’s get down to brass tacks on our events coming up next month:

 

At the beginning of April, we welcome international Jiu Jitsu celebrity and online coach Jonathan Thomas to the academy for a deep dive into a philosophy of guard passing.  Jon will share his approach to passing then open up for a Q&A later on.  The cost for this workshop is $70 and is an absolute steal for what you will receive.  If you’d like to register ahead of time, please let me know (i.e. shoot a reply).  More information as we approach the date

Lastly, our Spring Level 2 Shorts Test is right around the corner on Thursday, April 10th!  This test is open to all striking students with 3+ months experience or Coaches’ permission.  The test itself is free, but the shorts are $45 (you can opt out of the shorts at checkout).
