NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

WEEK OF JULY 22nd, 2024

 

Happy Monday Team!

We had a banger of a weekend twith Gianna Vadino improving to 20-0 and defeating a formerly undefeated rival to unify the Warrior’s Cup championship belts.

This would not be possible without a strong support network and infrastructure that allows success stories like this to be written.  Thank you to the staff, students, and friends of the academy for everything from the day-to-day direct training to the more abstract and adjacent “good vibes” and energy in the room.  These things make a huge difference and when one person wins, we all win.

Sounds corny, maybe.  I don’t know.  But as the groundskeeper of this garden I get to see things from a perspective few can, and seeing the harmony between every element in the academy function to create a really strong, really productive environment makes me super proud of, and grateful for, everyone involved.

Competition is not easy — but if it is something you may want to do, take some notes from the successful people in the room.  Observe their patterns, and walk in their footsteps.  The path is already laid out for you.  You don’t have to see what’s around every corner and beyond every hill in order to put one foot in front of the other.  Just start moving in the right direction and, over time, you’ll get to where you want to be.  It’s that simple.

Unfortunately, Makhi Anthony’s opponent was injured the week of the fight and his match was cancelled at the last minute, but we are looking forward towards some events in August that may see additional athletes in action.

Before that, we have a number of grapplers competing this coming weekend at the PBJJF!  This tournament will be held right across the Schuylkill in Bala Cynwyd (say that three times fast!) on Saturday morning/afternoon and I’m excited to see how our athletes perform.
