Updates from the north star mma academy in philadelphia
Happy Monday Team!
We have a HUGE week ahead of us in our Jiu Jitsu program.
Before I get into details, let’s give a big congrats to our Jiu Jitsu competition team for a solid performance this past weekend at Grappling Industries. All five of our athletes placed second in their divisions with a ton of hard fought victories accomplished along the way. Make sure you give Christian Spearman, Grant Boyd, Pat Pechaud, Michael Caro, Dashaun Kimp, and Johnny “Froboy” Janick a big high five when you see them!
For Michael and Pat, this was their first competitive experience, so double congrats to those two.
We keep the Jiu Jitsu ball rolling this week with two special events — Tuesday marks our second Slamboree, an end of the month Jiu Jitsu open mat + promotions. Two of our students will be moving up in rank to blue belt this week so make sure you are there to support Tom Barton and Kelsey O’Brien! This is a gi/nogi open mat, but make sure to bring your uniform for the picture and formalities.
Two days later, Rene Sousa returns to The North Star Academy for another masterclass in Jiu Jitsu. This nogi seminar is free and open to all Jiu Jitsu students and friends of the academy.
Please note that our regularly scheduled Thursday 6pm Jiu Jitsu 101 class is cancelled this week to accommodate the workshop.
In the Striking world, September will finish as a quiet month — however many of our students are heading to Hart MMA on Tuesday evening for the Yokkao/Saenchai seminar.
The seminar is $100 (which is cheap for meeting the Kobe Bryant of Muay Thai) and right down the street in Conshohocken. If you’d like more information on this event, or could possibly use a ride, let us know!
And on a personal note, I am extremely appreciative of the understanding and accommodations made this past week (and throughout the Spring and Summer) to free up some time for me to finally wrap up this relocation melodrama and move into my new, and permanent, spot. It’s incredibly difficult for me to take time away from the gym (physically, mentally, and emotionally) especially when many of our students are competing.
So thank you! I will see you all on the mats (and around the neighborhood)!
