Happy Monday Team!
We are on the other side of a super busy series of competitive events across the spectrum of combat sports, so it’ll be nice to get back into a less frenetic rhythm for the next two weeks!
While we didn’t get the result we wanted, Trevon Scales put on a solid performance Saturday night at Gut Check Championships. This athlete has endured a ton of obstacles already in his young career — he waited ringside for over an hour to begin his bout due to some technical difficulties, and wasn’t able to find his rhythm until late in the second round.
No excuses though — his opponent endured the same challenges and put on a smart and strategic performance to take home the win. Tre will be back in competition soon with some good experience under his belt. Thanks for all the support!
And big thanks to Gianna Vadino for helping out in the corner as well! Gianna is a paragon of hard work, and an extremely supportive teammate. We are lucky to have her set such a great example.
Moving forward, October is shaping up to be a really fun month — we have a series of consecutive events starting October 15th with the Grappling Industries Jiu Jitsu Tournament. The following weekend, Isis Toledo competes in a grappling superfight, and the weekend after that are back-to-back parties — our second annual “Kick or Treat” charity happy hour at Attic Brewing Company (10/28) and Team Balance’s 20th Anniversary at Frankford Hall (10/29)!
We’ll have more information on our October 28th shindig soon — but in the meantime, we are putting a call out to the friends, family, and students of North Star.
In November, a number of our students will be competing in the Tap Cancer Out charity tournament. This tournament is a massive fundraiser for cancer research, and our students will be embarking on a fundraising campaign to meet their individual goals.
We are curating a series of prize bundles to help our athletes raise funds, and we are calling on our family, friends, and students to donate any products or services to be offered.
These prize bundles will be raffled off, with our students raising funds through the sale of tickets.
We are looking for donations with a retail/market value of $25 and above. So far, we have over $700 in prizes donated already with more coming in each day. Some of these prizes include gift certificates from popular Martial Arts brands like RSLNT ($150), tickets to the region’s hottest MMA show in Cage Fury Fighting Championships ($120), a Hayabusa Gi ($150), a free month at the academy ($150+), sports supplements, and more!
Our fundraising efforts will culminate in our second annual “Kick or Treat” happy hour at Attic Brewing Company on Friday, October 28th. It also happens to be Karaoke night so start warming those pipes up in preparation!
If you are interested in participating as a donor, please contact me directly. Thank you! |
