FIT JITSU, JUNIOR SAMURAI JIU JITSU, AND MUAY THAIGERS KICKBOXING YOUTH NEWSLETTER
MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2026
Hi Parents!
We are back into the swing of things and classes have hit their stride!
As we move into October, we’ll be returning to a more organized outlook on the month for you. These newsletters will give you detailed look at what’s coming up for the month in our program so you can plan accordingly. Additionally, at the bottom of the newsletter you’ll see our Fit Jitsu stripe challenges detailed by due date. These challenges should be completed during the week prior to the due date, and we will send reminders via our official newsletter as well as in class and on Instagram (@thenorthstaracademy). Remember: students earn belts by successfully earning 30 stripes. Additional opportunities to earn stripes will occur in class as well.
October is Spooky Season at North Star MMA! We will host our annual Halloween themed costume classes for both age groups on Wednesday, October 28th at 4pm (Fit Jitsu) and 5pm (Junior Samurai BJJ + Muay Thaigers Kickboxing). There will be no Muay Thai class on Thursday, October 29th. We’ll send out more information as we approach the date. Costumers are welcome and encouraged, but not necessary as we know not all families participate in the holiday. Candy will, obviously, be provided 🙂
We are also planning a movie night + pizza party on Saturday, October 24th, for our older youth students (ages 8+). More details TBA as well.
Coach Jackson is out 10.5 – 10.11. Jiu Jitsu is an endless subject of study, and as a coach I have the responsibility of staying on the vanguard of what’s happening in the BJJ meta. The sport evolves so quickly that you can be left in the dust if you’re not constantly on top the innovations and trends. As such, I’ll be at a BJJ intensive training workshop next week and will have some great stuff to bring back — including some international treats for the kids 🙂
Classes are still on as normal, and we have pushed our GRAPPLEMANIA! and THAIGER GAMES events to this week to accommodate my absense. Mondays and Tuesdays will have our physical challenge classes, and Wednesdays and Thursdays will be our games day (no equipment or uniforms required on Wednesday or Thursday). Coaches Isis, Makhi, and Xavier will be on the mats!
For parents and families new to the program, we set aside the last week of the month for the GRAPPLEMANIA! and THAIGER GAMES events as a way to break up the routine, have fun, and reward the kids for a month of hard work!
October’s Fit Jitsu Stripe Challenges:
- DUE 10.12 – RED: Perform the following workout 3x!
- 50 Jumping Jacks
- 50 Pushups
- 50 Shin Rollups
- Can be broken into smaller chunks
- DUE 10.19 – GREEN: Share your favorite BJJ game!
- Teach a parent or sibling (with supervision) your favorite Jiu Jitsu game. Must be able to explain how (and why!) to score, as well as safety etiquette and make sure that nobody gets hurt 🙂
- DUE 10.26 – BLUE: Thank a teacher!
- Speak to a teacher or coach (BJJ coaches don’t count) and thank them for teaching you something you enjoyed learning from them. Bonus points if it’s written down on a note!
- DUE 11.2 – GREEN: Teach a parent!
As always, thank you for being a part of the program and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, ideas, or concerns. We love hearing back from you! And parents — we LOVE having you on the mats as well. If you’re ever curious about the martial arts, let me know. I’d be happy to personally show you around.
