TECHNIQUE, LIKE MATURITY, IS OPTIONAL
WEEK OF 8/3/2026
Aging is mandatory, maturing is optional. Similarly in training, physical development will occur, but technical development is never guaranteed.
It’s a mistake to conflate hard, physically overwhelming training with the optimization of skill. If anything, high intensity work will force you to fall back on what you know — or build crude survival skills just to endure.
Technical development is done via a repeating process of analyzation, auditing, and correction.
Self-auditing is one of the most important skills you can develop as a fighter. Only through knowing where we are can we draft a map to get us to where we want to be. And once we have the destination in place can we build a plan to actually get ourselves there.
Simply “showing up” completely ignores this process. While you’ll still improve your physical skills, there’s no guarantee you’ll improve your technique whatsoever. That, (un)fortunately, is entirely on you.
Take ownership of your growth, take initiative to learn the art inside and out, and be ever critical of your technique. Building the basic skills is easy, but sharpening them is a life long effort!
