Happy Monday team!
On Saturday we hosted our Women’s Muay Thai Open Mat — athletes from all over the tri state area came by and got some good work in. One of the most important things you can do as a martial artist is make an effort to plug yourself into the community. You don’t need an invitation; your current participation is your admission ticket. Make an effort to connect with other athletes both within our gym, as well as those abroad.
One of my favorite activities when I travel is to drop in at other gyms and just train. Just be a random guy on the mat, meet some cool people, get a sense of the local vibe. It’s a privilege to have that sort of access to the local community and pierce the tourism veil. And, who knows, you might make some cool connections! I definitely have.
Speaking of travel and training — I regularly attend a BJJ training camp in Innsbruck, Austria every February. This year we will bring a crew for anyone interested. So start planning! As official dates become available we’ll let you know.
Beyond that, another solid week of training ahead of us! We will be officially closed on 7/4 to observe the holiday, but open as normal on 7/3 (the “Federal Holiday”). Stay posted for any Independence Day open mats (these are announced on our social media accounts, specifically our Instagram @thenorthstaracademy).
See you on the mats!
