We are fresh off a busy weekend both on the mats and off!
The BJJ squad had a solid showing at the Tap Cancer Out tournament in Hatfield, PA. Dashaun Kimp picked up a gold medal in his heavyweight division, with the rest of the team fighting through some tough divisions en route to some silver and bronze finishes. Overall a fun, productive day with no injuries — you can’t ask for anything more!
And thanks to everyone who came out for our Kick or Treat happy hour at Attic Brewing company. Hope you guys had a great time!
Looking forward to Monday and beyond we have a jam packed week. I’ve included the detailed lineup below but I’ll make some quick notes first.
Tonight, we say goodbye to longtime North Star athlete Trevon Scales with a special intermediate striking class ran by him at the helm. Make sure to pack the mats!
This week also features three 100% free Intro to BJJ workshops. We had such a massive response after announcing the first one that we had to spread it out over two additional sessions. These classes are, of course, open to all North Star students who are interested in BJJ (with or without experience). But also open to the public as well.

While it’s not necessary for NS students to register, it’s appreciated as it helps us know who is coming and when. However, all non students must register ahead of time as the waiver must be signed prior to stepping on the mats.
Lastly, we will be closed on Friday evening due to Halloween. Our Friday morning classes will be ran as normal.
Our full lineup is as follows:
- 10.29 / Wednesday — Halloween Kids Class (4pm for Fit Jitsu, 5pm for all Muay Thai + BJJ students)
- 10.29 / Wednesday — Intro to BJJ Workshop A @ 7:30pm
- 10.30 / Thursday — No Kids Muay Thai class
- 10.30 / Thursday — Intro to BJJ Workshop B @ 6:00pm
- 10.31 / Friday — No evening classes (closed for Halloween). Morning classes still on as scheduled.
- 11.01 / Saturday — Intro to BJJ Workshop C @ 11:15am
- 11.02 / Sunday — 8 Limbs Moc Competition
