DON’T FORGET TO HAVE FUN
WEEK OF 10/27/25
Quick one for you this week.
So much of combat sports culture exists adjacent to stoic philosophy, warrior ethos, bushido principles, and on and on and on. We are hammered every day with messages of chasing kaizen — that is, never ending improvement across all facets of life.
And while these things are incredibly important for growth and development, they’re also just one ingredient of many in the stew of success.
Another ingredient is, well, having fun. That’s it. No more, no less. Have fun. That doesn’t mean that everything has to be fun. But we can easily fall into the trap of worrying about our growth, obsessing over how we compare to our teammates, and managing minor injuries or additional impositions on our free time.
Often times what we have isn’t what we want, and that creates disappointment and stress. But.. so what?
Training is, first and foremost, fun. It can be therapeutic. It feels good. It’s healthy. It’s positive. It’s a lot of really, really good things. Make sure to take a step back every once in awhile and reaffirm that for yourself.
You have the rest of your life to grow and improve. But in the moment, enjoy it!
