THE RED CORNER
NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
WEEK OF JUNE 9th, 2025
Happy Monday Team!
First of all, congrats to Coach Trevon on his dominant win Saturday night at Freedom Fighting Championships. Trevon put on an aggressive boxing clinic from the first bell to the last, nearly securing the KO with his relentless assault. Tre has accomplished so much in his time here at the academy and we couldn’t be more proud of him for his successes both in the ring and out. Make sure to give him a high five next time you see him on the mats!
We also had a super successful day at the 8 Limbs MOC competition. Over 70 participants showed up yesterday for a day of sparring exhibitions and our team fielded seven athletes: Kyler, Andy, Jason, Joe, Brandon, Ayden, and Dashaun. These events are a great testing grounds for up-and-coming competitors (and students alike) who want to get a feel for what competition is truly like. Spoiler alert: it’s WAY different than sparring.
It’s also great for the coaching staff to see our efforts basically “thrown against the wall” to see what sticks. And, from there, we adapt and adjust the sails. Congrats to all the competitors this past weekend! You did an amazing job.
Moving forward to the end of the month, Gianna Vadino defends her Warrior’s Cup Championship against one of the West Coast’s top fighters in Queens, NY. Gianna is coming off a great performance at the ISKA National Tournament and has a ton of momentum going into this fight. If you’re interested in attending, we’ll have tickets in the academy soon. Stay posted.
Grappling Industries returns to Philadelphia in mid-July! Now is the time to start preparing. If you’re interested in competing, speak with a coach. The Grappling Industries tournaments are a rite of passage for Jiu Jitsu athletes as they can be a grueling marathon of match upon match upon match. Coming in with the proper training and preparation is key, so if this is something you want to try — start your preparation now!
Still no fixed date our on move to 6673 Germantown Ave yet. Stay posted for more details but we’ll be calling “all hands on deck” for those who can help over one weekend in July. Many hands make light work, so they say. Our new location will quite literally be one of the nicest facilities in the entire country and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with all of you. We’re so close!
In the meantime, let’s keep working hard and I’ll see you on the mats!
–Coach Jackson
