NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

WEEK OF MARCH 10th, 2025

 

Happy Monday Team!

This week is bittersweet for me — bitter in that the mornings are earlier, sweeter in that the sun is shining all day.  But we are capping it with two awesome events!

 

First, Gianna Vadino returns to action at the USA Muay Thai National Tournament in Wilmington, DE.  Gianna is opposite two of the top athletes in the country in her A-Class division and will have no easy fights en route to the gold medal this weekend.  We have been working tirelessly all Winter in preparation and are excited to see her back in action!

If streaming options are available we will share that information as we find out.

Secondly, join us for a screening of UFC Fight Night 254: Vettori vs. Dolidze on Saturday evenig!  The fights will be displayed on our 120″ projector screen in the main room.  Students, friends, and family are all welcome to come by and hang out for a night of great competition.

Doors open at 6pm and the event’s main card kicks off at 7pm.

This event is BYOF/BYOB.  Please bring a lawn blanket or towel if you intend to bring a meal or a lawnchair.   This helps us protect the mats accordingly.

 

At the beginning of April, we welcome international Jiu Jitsu celebrity and online coach Jonathan Thomas to the academy for a deep dive into a philosophy of guard passing.  Jon will share his approach to passing then open up for a Q&A later on.  The cost for this workshop is $70 and is an absolute steal for what you will receive.  If you’d like to register ahead of time, please let me know (i.e. shoot a reply).  More information as we approach the date

 

Lastly, our Spring Level 2 Shorts Test is right around the corner on Thursday, April 10th!  This test is open to all striking students with 3+ months experience or Coaches’ permission.  The test itself is free, but the shorts are $45 (you can opt out of the shorts at checkout).  For more information, and to register, click here.
