THE RED CORNER
NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
WEEK OF OCTOBER 14th, 2024
Happy Monday Team!
Saturday saw over twenty of our students participate in our inaugural Level 2 Shorts Test!
We kept it simple, but pushed the pace for over 2 hours of non-stop training. In all this was a great learning and growing experience for everyone and my hope is that everyone found something inside of them that maybe they didn’t know existed. A part of themselves that grows stronger under pressure, that can be tapped into under duress. Martial arts are, more than anything, empowering. We can so often let our shortcomings and insecurities obscure the reality of our strength and potential, and sometimes we just need to be put through the ringer to see ourselves in a new light.
So, congrats to everyone! We will run another Level 2 test in January and plans for a Level 3 test are under way.
Big thank you to the striking coaches: Tre, Bill, Joe, and Oren for maintaining an excellent standard and doing the important and difficult work of bringing new students up to speed.
Momentum is hard to build, but easy to maintain. As a coach that’s primarily teaching the intermediate and advanced groups, I’m just keeping the momentum going. But for the 101 level coaches, they are building momentum. And that is the real work. So, thank you guys!
Nothing super crazy on the docket for this week. No special workshops, no guest coaches, just some work that needs to be done on the mats and plenty of time to do it.
The following week, I’ll be out of the country to coach Tim Green and Gianna Vadino at the ISKA International World Tournament in Vienna, Asutria! Our class schedule won’t be effected except for the cancellation of our Thursday AM classes. We’ll also be welcoming Jeff Knapp, owner of Black Sheep Martial Arts, as a guest coach on Wednesday 10/23 for our Striking 201 class.
Additionally, coach Valor Boyer has been selected to compete in a grappling superfight at ADXC 6 in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Friday, October 25th. We’ll have PPV and additional information on this event in our coming newsletter. Congrats coach!
November sees our BJJ team take on Tap Cancer Out, as well as Sam Coffin and Makhi Anthony competing at the WAKO K-1 National Championship tournament in Delaware. Always busy busy busy!
Stay posted for some info on our annual “Kick or Treat” halloween get together. Tentative Date 11/1 (Friday) evening!
For reference, our full event lineup is below:
