NEWS AND UPDATES FROM THE NORTH STAR ACADEMY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

WEEK OF JULY 15th, 2024

 

Happy Monday Team!

Another week, another heatwave here in Philadelphia.  But what else is new? 🙂

Make sure to stay hydrated and keep your gear dry after training — these two practices can solve a ton of really awful problems that occasionally pop up.

This Friday, Gianna fights to unify her 130lb Warrior’s Cup Championship Belt with the current 135 lb champion to create a new, unified 132lb champion!  Winner takes home TWO belts.  This is, without exaggeration, the largest women’s Muay Thai fight on the East Coast that I have ever seen in the past 20 years.  It’s going to be awesome!

Gianna has been training super hard so we are excited to see her showcase her full skillset against another tough opponent.

Joining her on the card is Makhi Anthony, who makes his promotional debut with Warrior’s Cup.  Makhi has stepped up to the plate in this training camp and really jumped through every hoop that was put in front of him.  His hard work, combined with his natural talent (you guys know what I’m talking about) should make for a really impressive performance.

Two tough fights, two tough fighters, this Friday in Queens, NY!  Some of our students are traveling to the show but you can also order a PPV if you’d prefer not to drive through Manhattan on a Friday night 🙂  There’s a ticket link in the events lineup below.

Prior to that, we are holding our July wrestling workshop this Monday at 7:30pm.  Our focus for this month will be on the open stance (left foot lead vs right foot lead) and how it sets up the basic single leg.  The wrestling portion will last 45-60 minutes with open mat rolling to follow — this is an all levels class so all students are welcome to attend.

• Saturday, July 27th — PBJJF Philadelphia Summer Open Grappling Tournament (speak toa  coach if you’d like to compete).
