MONDAY MINDSET: ONE STEP AT A TIME
MARTIAL ARTS MINDSET FOR SUCCESS BOTH ON AND OFF THE MATS
Short one for you this week.
This is just a quick reminder to allow yourself to work towards your goals one small step at a time.
We often paralyze ourselves by trying to conquer the magnitude of our goals in one fell swoop. This is, of course, inherently impossible and an extremely sneaky and subversive method of self-sabotage.
You can only do what you can do. Thus, focus on what you can do, and do it consistently, one step at a time.
You do not have to be the best in the world, the fittest in the world, or the most disciplined in the world. Put your energy, instead, on being a better version of yourself by degrees. Make small, smart decisions, and allow the momentum of your progress to carry you forward into larger wins.
Do not, by any means, allow the scope of your goals to sideline you with unnecessary planning, despair, or troubleshooting. Keep your feet moving, and figure it out as you go.
It’s OK to not be walking the most direct or efficient path to the finish line. Nobody does. And that path is only illuminated in retrospect when you have the luxury of looking back and reflecting on your journey.
So, again, take it one step at a time.
And, most importantly, enjoy the walk. Stop to smell the roses and appreciate the scenery. There will always be somewhere else to go, some new problem to solve, some new challenge to meet, so make sure to appreciate where you are at every moment.
