Happy Monday Team!
It’s HOT outside so this is my annual reminder to stay hydrated. If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated! Make sure to drink a ton of water throughout the day, and especially before (and during) training.
If you are doubling up on sessions at the gym, take a hydration break in between classes and eat a little snack (y’all know I’m all about bananas, nature’s energy bar!).
Some basic awareness and prevention will allow you to maximize your time on the mats.
The next two Saturdays are packed with some awesome events, by the way.
Make sure to join us for the Jiu Jitsu 101 Seminar: Guard Passing 101. This workshop kicks off at 11:15am on Saturday, July 29th and will cover the basics of Jiu Jitsu’s core problem — passing the guard.
The seminar is beginner friendly (like, seriously, no experience required) and will show some advanced concepts in simple ways. Advanced students will get a lot out of it as well!
Friends and family members of students are welcome, as are non-members of the academy. If you are interested in attending and are not currently a member, please let us know!
This is a no gi workshop so no uniform is required. However, athletic shorts and a tight fitting top (no sleeveless tops) are recommended. Bottoms with zippers, grommets, or non-athletic design are not allowed. Loose fitting tops or sleeveless tees are not allowed.
Hope to see you there!
And don’t forget — North Star heads up to NYC on August 5th for another round of fights at Freedom Fighter Promotions!
Gianna Vadino looks for her 4th title in less than a year as she takes on a tough opponent flying in from Nashville, Tennessee! Alongside her, Coach Trevon Stevens makes his Freedom Fighter debut at 120lbs against an experience New Yorker in a full rules bout.
Tickets are only available in person! If you are interested in making the trip (seriously, it’s an awesome show), let us know and we can get you hooked up.
Make sure to help these two athletes finish out their camps these next two weeks by packing the mats and giving 100%. These athletes are a product of their environment, and everyone in that environment is part of that development. Keep up the solid work! |

This week’s Junior Samurai stripe challenge is Red! Students can earn a red stripe by teaching a parent one of their favorite techniques. Make sure to address ALL safety issues and explain the technique in great detail, including how and why it’s used! |
