Happy Monday Team!
Big thank you to everyone who made it out for our 6 Year Anniversary Party! I promised everyone I’d go for an Irish Goodbye at some point, but when I attempted to escape it still took me 45 minutes
I guess that’s how you know it was a good party. Stay posted for a fight night at the gym coming soon — we have a huge projector screen ready to go!
We have some cool events coming up as well. Just announced, a Jiu Jitsu 101 Seminar Series event: “Guard Passing 101” on Saturday, July 29th, starting at 11:15am (our gi open mat is still scheduled as normal). This no gi workshop is open to all North Star members, their families, and their friends. Non members of the academy (no experience needed) are invited as well with an e-mail RSVP (just hit “reply” and tell me a little bit about yourself).
We’ll simplify the main points of guard structure and guard retention, then work backwards into guard passing. Oftentimes we get hypnotized by the complexities of specific iterations of a simple concept, but if we understand the fundamental features of that concept we can develop some basic literacy extremely fast!
One week after that, Gianna Vadino and coach Tre head up to Queens, NY to compete at Freedom Fighter Championships on August 5th! Gianna will be fighting for her 4th title in less than a year against a tough opponent coming all the way up from Tennessee. Ticket and PPV info will be available shortly.
Lastly — we’d like to set up a Striking 101 seminar in the near future. What subjects would you like to see covered? Send me your feedback!
Again, thank you to everyone here at the academy past, present, and future, who has made the last six years possible. You are the real MVPs!
