We are often way harder on ourselves than we are on others, don’t you think? Our inner voice can speak to us in ways we’d never tolerate from someone else.
So this week I have a little tip for you — the next time you have a problem, write it down on paper (or, ya know, just imagine you’re doing it), and then reply to it as if you had a popular advice column in a magazine somewhere. What advice would you give? How would you empathize? How would you steer this person towards a solution with kindness and understanding?
Sometimes the only thing between us and the solution to a problem is a little bit of acceptance and understanding.
As this relates to martial arts — well, martial arts is always going to be difficult. Don’t make it more difficult on yourself with an unhealthy inner dialogue. Be your biggest cheerleader and prop yourself up in the difficult times. You are the most powerful and influential voice you can hear. |
