Happy Monday Team!
We are on the other side of an incredible weekend here at the academy. Over 60 competitive athletes from 10+ schools converged onto our mats for a full day of 20+ sparring rounds at our PRO/AM Sparring event.
It’s absolutely important to get good at martial arts. Being an effective fighter, and having reliable self-defense skills and the fitness to back it up, is paramount. But it’s not the only thing.
Having fun, making new friends, and building relationships within the broader community are all just as important. Creating a life-long love of the martial arts requires you to build the support network that will sustain you throughout the years.
I had no intentions of personally sparring on Saturday, but after being “called out” by my fellow coaches (and friends of 20+ years) I geared up and got to work. I’ve known some of these men and women for most of my adult life and I greatly value these relationships. I hope that you all, too, will build similar bonds over the years.
Before we can start looking that far into the future, we have to focus on the present day — there is a ton of action this week! Gianna Vadino looks to secure her third championship at Warrior’s Cup in Queens, NY. If you’re up for making the trip, grab your tickets at this link here and we’ll see you there!
The following day we have many of our Jiu Jitsu athletes competing at Grappling Industries in Philadelphia. This is one of the tougher local events as it features a round-robin format, meaning each athlete will be competing through multiple brackets.
Finally, Timmy Green steps back into the cage on Friday, May 12th at Art of War in South Philadelphia! We will have ticket info soon but make sure to lock in the date! Each of these athletes’ victories are your victories, too. We all sweat together, train together, and grow together. So make sure to be on the mats this week putting in the effort! |
