Happy Monday Team!
Today starts the debut of our new Striking 101 Curriculum! While the coaches and I are definitely excited to move forward with our new approach, the reality is that on the mats it won’t be too different 🙂
Before we get into the details of what’s changed, I want to announce an in-house seminar scheduled for Saturday, February 11th, from 11:15am – ?. “The Path to Blue Belt” is a comprehensive workshop designed around the fundamental principles and positions of Jiu Jitsu.
Here at the North Star Academy, the criteria for “White to Blue” advancement lies primarily in one’s ability to understand, prioritize, and execute the major skills and strategies from each macro position (half guard, mount, guard, etc).
This workshop is open to all Jiu Jitsu students of all experience levels and will be a great asset to your learning!
Updated Striking 101 Curriculum
We are taking the focus off the mechanics of specific offensive and defensive techniques, and instead emphasizing a core set of six reaction drills that will help you develop better pad holding skills, learn to integrate offense, defense, and movement, and also condition your body and sharpen your mind in anticipation of more complex contact and sparring drills.
In order to ensure that the entire student body is on the same page, we are taking the month of February to also focus on these six reaction drills in our intermediate classes. Our goal is to improve the overall level of pad work and the skills of those in the role of “coach” during Dutch and sparring drills.
Please make sure to bring your shinguards! They are an essential tool in developing these abilities. |

Our Junior Samurai stripe challenge this week is Blue! Students can earn a blue stripe by volunteering to help out before, during, or after a class or activity (not counting Jiu Jitsu!). Make sure to follow through and complete whatever the requested task or chore is! |
