Happy Monday Team!
We have a rare break in the action this month with not much confirmed on our calendar. So let’s double down in training and really focus on the basics!
I have some fun and important news for everyone as well: we have made some changes to our Jiu Jitsu 101 curriculum, and we’ll be adjusting our Intermediate/Advanced striking format too.
We’re migrating from a Position of the Week format in Jiu Jitsu 101 to a Position of the Month. Our curriculum will focus on one position each month (both top and bottom) in a six month cycle. This week we begin our block on Half Guard.
We feel that this format gives you, the students, a deeper practice in each area, and is also more forgiving to those who cannot attend classes in a given week and miss out on that lesson.
For our Intermediate Striking Program, we are extending classes to 75 minutes. Classes will feature more contact and pre-sparring drills, and an emphasis on clinch work will be present in each class. Appropriate level sparring and clinching rounds will be available after class as well.
Striking 301 will be removed from our Monday/Wednesday schedule and instead only be featured on Saturdays at noon.
The changes to our striking program will take effect on Monday, August 8th. This week’s schedule will not be affected.
Please note that students will be required to have shinguards, gloves, kneepads, and a mouthguard in order to participate in 201 level classes. Full sparring is only permitted with approval and 16oz gloves.
We are offering a discounted rate of $15 for kneepads, mouthguard, and mouthguard case this week. Take advantage!
Please hustle and gather the proper equipment asap.
As I mentioned in last week’s e-mail, our curriculums are “living documents.” I am constantly planning, testing, reviewing, and adjusting our approach in order to keep it optimized. Kind of like how we improve in martial arts, right?
See you on the mats!
