YOUTH VIRTUAL AND OUTDOOR CLASSES
We will be migrating our classes primarily online to the Zoom platform. Youth classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 4pm – 4:30pm, and students will earn attendance credit for each class they participate in.
-
To access the virtual classes, visit https://northstarmma.com/students/virtual-class/
-
Select “Punchy’s Boxing Club” and use the case-sensitive password “north star” to log in (we use passwords to prevent “Zoom Bombing” in our classes)
-
Students should have some small weights or pillows, their gloves, and some room to move around available during class.
-
Classes will consist of warmups, strength training, scavenger hunts, yoga, sprints, and more! We run an engaging, fast-paced session designed to keep the students active and focused.
On a pop-up basis (due to weather and holidays), we will run outdoor classes in Vernon Park on Saturdays at 10am (4-7 year olds) and 10:45am (8-12 year olds). Students will participate in socially distanced training and get a chance to blow off some steam outside. We will send an e-mail out earlier in the week confirming each outdoor class for that weekend. Outdoor classes are tentatively set to begin on November 28th and will include:
-
Warmups and calisthenics
-
Obstacle courses
-
Shadowboxing
-
Gimnastic Natural drills (bear crawls, monkey crawls, etc)
-
Games (noodle tag, Sensei Says, etc)
-
Belt striping (students will physically receive the stripes they earn during the virtual classes)
-
Life skills chats and guidance on upcoming Life Skills Challenges (more info TBA)
-
Families with students in both the Fit Jitsu and Junior Samurai classes can request to have their children attend the same class (just ask!)
-
Students should dress appropriately for the weather and bring their gloves, a water bottle, their belt, and comfortable shoes.
-
Students will check in directly to the park where they will receive a temperature scan and be signed into class.
-
Restrooms will be available to students and parents at the academy before, during, and after class. However, parents must accompany students to the academy and restroom.
-
Fresh coffee will be available at the academy — however, cups will not be provided. So bring a mug (or purchase one at the pro shop)!
If you have any questions about the youth program moving forward, please shoot us an e-mail at [email protected] and we will get right back to you.
ADULT OUTDOOR AND VIRTUAL CLASSES
We will take a slightly different approach to our adult programming during this shutdown period. Virtual striking and grappling classes will take the format more of establishing skills of the week for students to practice at home, or during their private reserved gym time — these classes will be archived and available for review at any time on the curriculum section of our website (www.northstarmma.com/students/curriculum). Two M4A classes will be offered live as well.
-
Striking 101 live at 5pm on Mondays
-
Jiu-Jitsu 101 at live 5:30pm on Mondays
-
M4A with Alex at 7pm on Wednesdays
-
Yoga with Keren at 11am on Sundays
-
If these classes are popular, and students would like additional days and time, we will add them as requested.
To access the online classes, visit www.northstarmma.com/students/virtual-class and use the password “north star” (case sensitive).
We will also run an outdoor striking drills class on Saturdays at 11:30am on a pop-up basis. We will send an e-mail out earlier in the week confirming each outdoor class for that weekend. Outdoor classes are tentatively set to begin on November 28th and will include:
-
Warmups
-
Footwork drills
-
Technique Drills
-
Combo of the Day
-
Shadowboxing rounds
-
Socialization (super important!)
-
Fresh coffee will be available at the academy for before/after class — however, cups will not be provided. So bring a mug!
Students will check in to class at the park (5800 Greene St), and will have access to the academy in case they need to use the restroom or warm up.
PRIVATE GYM ACCESS (ADULT STUDENTS)
We will provide a safe training environment for pods of up to six students (in each room) throughout the week. Please note: we ask all students to park in the lot across from the side entrance on Rittenhouse St (behind Nick’s Pizza). Students will not be permitted to park in the lot in front of the academy.
A video explanation of the following information can be found here: https://youtu.be/tINtHGFKkW4
